The Disappointment Choir are indie-pop duo Katy Greene (vocals, guitar) and Rob Armiger (vocals, synths, guitars). The awesome 'Pretty Good Christmas' was actually the first the couple wrote together. It has been followed by the albums Polar Ships (2013) and Vows (2017).
Scrolling through the bands Tumblr posts, I quite liked this description of the songwriting process from 2016 'Sometimes it really does feel like songs float around fully formed, like clouds, waiting to be caught. One morning you get up out of bed and get right into the path of one. In it goes, and - assuming you haven’t got work, or any other such trivial distractions - a few hours later, there’s a song written and demoed.
The rest of the time? It’s like you’re wrestling individual twitching, struggling limbs into submission and stitching them together to make them behave like one body. A lot of the time that works too, and the effort is really satisfying: that final moment when it sits up on the gurney and you see what you made.
But there’s still no substitute for the ones that just drift right in one ear and stay there. Yesterday was a nice day.
