Masterminded by Swedish producer and composer Johan Agebjorn, who describes “Anorak Christmas” (2006) as an example of “neo-italo disco”, this is a tune that has been rapturously received by critics. The Guardian, listing the track as the 42nd best Christmas song of all time, called it ‘glorious synthpop from Sweden’s ‘disco princess’, as ultra-soft vocals meet a shiny Eighties beat. Sounds so fragile and beautiful, you half expect it to melt in your mouth’. While Pitchfork Media lauded it’s ‘candy cane synths and disco beats’.
Interestingly, Sally Shapiro is the pseudonym of a Swedish vocalist whose identity has been kept secret since the duo's partnership began back in 2006, with the release of Disco Romance. The duo re-united for their fourth album together, Sad Cities, earlier this year.
