Formed in 2007 by Kevin Russell, Shinyribs, a country- soul, swamp-funk band, has been described by none other than PopMatters as “one of the most acclaimed Austin-based bands in recent history”. Russell has an impeccable pedigree, having been the frontman and multi-instrumentalist with alt-country pioneers The Gourds (1994-2013).
The track that the band is “donating” to the album, “Christmas Time in Bossier City”, is taken from the 2018 album The Kringle Tingle, a record which Afterglow listed as the fourth best Xmas album of the decade. Also included in the magazine’s top 10 were John Legend, Michael Buble, Sufjan Stevens and Kacey Musgraves. Texas Monthly included the song in a feature entitled ‘What’s the Best Texas Christmas Song’, alongside tracks by Roy Orbison, Willie Nelson, George Jones, Dolly Parton and Gene Autry.
