Record Heat, Formerly Spirit Animal (the band underwent a name change in 2020), are based in New York. They line up as Steve Cooper (vocals), Cal Stamp (lead guitar), Ronen Evron (drums) and Paul Michel (bass). The band released the albums Kingdom Phylum (2013) and This is a Test (2015) before signing a major deal with Atlantic. That deal resulted in the album Born Yesterday (2018).

The band, dubbed 'Rhythmic electro-psych rockers' has been likened to Faith no More and T Rex by the Washington Post, but the critical consensus is that the band blend funk, soul, punk and rock ’n ’roll into a unique brew. ‘Come to Christmas’ was released on Wind-Up records in 2016.
