Come Winter (First Version, early '87)
A song not used by BOB while we were active despite there being a couple of demo takes. This one was made by Richard and myself and showed that the song might be worth pursuing if we could work out a better ending. Pining after your first love who's moved away to college is one of those clichéd subjects for a song that are best avoided, and that probably explains why it was passed over, but I remember
staring out of my bedroom window at the orangey night sky over Tottenham and feeling pretty sorry for myself as it was written.
What would have been playing on my radio in the chorus was, of course, John Peel's essential Radio One show, Monday to Thursday, 10 til midnight. A comfort and education to hordes of similarly glum young people, still much missed. This mix dates from the first time we returned to our old recordings, back in 1999. After that, we realised that the tapes were crumbling and had them digitised before it was too late, but this one was too far gone by then, so this version is all we have.
