Poet and musician Pete Green had this to say to redsoapbox about his Christmas composition: ‘As well as being a Christmas song, “Everything's Dead Pretty When it Snows” is a song about friends being awesome and most work being rubbish. I love Christmas, and one of the reasons is that for many people it's a chance to step off the hamster wheel of wage slavery and just be, without the constant pressure to do. Maybe the futility of bullshit jobs becomes more than usually apparent at this time of pleasant unfamiliarity. My protagonist in the song finds himself stuck in the office doing just such a job on Christmas eve when everyone else has gone to the pub, and eventually decides that enough is enough and sacks it off to join them for a pint. Miracles can be small and this one will do for the time being’.
