I interviewed Girl Ray for Buzz magazine a few years back and we talked briefly about Christmas music, so it's nice to be able to feature them on this festive album. The eagle-eyed out there will have noticed that the band also feature on the cover of my book Pop Hack (all proceeds to Velindre hospital).
All Music has this to say about the formation of the band: 'Getting together over a school holiday, guitarist/vocalist Poppy Hankin and drummer Iris McConnell started writing songs together, but the band only took shape when bassist Sophie Moss joined up. The trio recorded their first single, "Ghosty," while doing their A Levels. Another single, "I'll Make This Fun," followed; then Girl Ray signed to Moshi Moshi'.
Their debut album Earl Grey (2017) was well-received, including a four-star review in The Guardian and was followed two years later by Girl.
