This stunning track is taken from the band's eponymous album released in 2016. The Dutch band is Leo Meijer, (bass) Mies ter Horst (vocals) Peter van Son (guitar) Wim Dalebout (drums).
Wim told us his story: "The song 'Xmas Hospital' is about a vision of Jesus. Not the vision of a 14-year-old virgin somewhere in a cave, but the vision of a 40-year-old man under the influence of morphine. “It was Christmas and I was in the hospital. I had undergone a painful operation and was completely flattened against the excruciating pain. I was in a small room with 1 window and 1 television. The doctor came in, he looked like a clown, he had a huge earring in. Then I looked out the window. I saw a colony of trucks. They're loading something. It was Jesus Christ on the cross. They're bringing out Jesus Christ! Then I fell asleep again.”
Wim filled us in on the backdrop to the band: “Lovebombers II originated from the remains of….. Lovebombers I. An 80's fuzz duo influenced by Suicide, The Jesus and Mary Chain and LSD. We have released 1 cassette. At some point we forgot we existed so that was all. Somewhere in the 90's in Berlin I met some Dutchmen who had the cassette. They wanted to play the songs. That's how II was born, now as a garage rock band. The old rhythm box songs were now played in the classic 4 man band structure. And soon new songs were made. And there was a performance. That lasted a few years and due to all kinds of circumstances we stopped again. After 25 years we started again. Same songs, same people. And in 2016 we finally released these songs on CD. And also this single. 'Xmas Hospital' came out as a single with Dahmagnie. Dahmagnie that means something like 'that is not allowed'. We still perform a few times a year. Usually in cafes. Always fun to do.”
